LGBTQ Centred Counselling

Many people prefer to seek out LGTBQ centred counselling where they don’t have to explain what it means to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, trans, gender diverse, or gender non conforming; and can comfortably use their preferred pronoun and language of identity. Not having to educate your therapist on your identity means you can focus on the issues that are most important for you.

Clients who come to us at Eagle Wellness for counselling may want to feel more comfortable with their identity, or they may have other challenges:
  • Anxiety, including persistent and negative thoughts, social anxiety, panic attacks.
  • Depression, including low energy, feeling down, difficult sleep patterns, poor memory, changes to weight and appetite.
  • Grief and Loss, including understanding grief and it’s impact, coming to terms with the loss, and maintaining a connection to your loved one.
  • Trauma which could have taken place at any time in the past or the present. Trauma is any experience that was/is deeply distressing or disturbing for you.
You may also want to discuss your identity including:
  • What it means to come out, how, when and it’s importance
  • Relationships with partners and family
  • Social or family isolation
  • Aging
  • HIV diagnosis and disclosure
We like the Genderbread Person v3.2 as a visual way of explaining the many nuances of sexual orientation and gender identity, and that gets away from the binary understanding of identity. We show you this to give you an understanding of how we will work with you and relationship to being LGBTQ.
